There’s nothing quite like kicking back with a plate of delicious Aussie tiger prawns with thousands of Aussies across the country enjoying them throughout the year. And now, for the first time, the seafood favourite is about to get its own national day, dedicated to their unique taste, vibrant colour, range of health benefits and all-round legendary status.
Saturday 20 March marks Australia’s first National Prawn Day, which champions the period of peak supply of farmed tiger prawns with over 1500 tonnes expected to be produced by Australia’s biggest prawn farmer alone.
The centrepiece of National Prawn Day celebration will be a prawn-peeling competition across two weeks - ‘The Great Australian Prawn Peel-Off” that attempts to make the Guinness World Records for “Most shrimp/prawns peeled in one minute”, spearheaded by leading Australian tiger prawn brand, Tropic Co. Seafood stores around Australia will stage Peel-Off competitions, challenging their local communities to show off their prawn peeling skills, in an attempt to take home the title of ‘fastest prawn peeler’ in Australia.
Tropic Co will be celebrating the occasion by giving away a copious amount of its juicy, premium Australian tiger prawns for free to those whose prawn peeling game is particularly strong.
The most prolific Aussie prawn peeler will also have the opportunity to make history and become a record-holder with Guinness World Records if they peel more than 21 prawns in one minute. Aussies are urged to begin practicing their “twist, peel and enjoy” techniques, ready for the big day.
Tropic Co Ambassador and leading nutritionist, Susie Burrell, says it’s the perfect time for Aussies to embrace fresh home grown produce and bring a little treat to the dinner table. Susie said: “Aussie tiger prawns are not only incredibly tasty but extremely versatile and provide many other health benefits including being a low-fat protein option as well as packed with vitamins and Omega-3. So they can be enjoyed all year round with pleasure and no guilt required.”
“There is so much you can do with Aussie Tiger prawns, from tossing up a fresh seafood linguine to spicing things up with a Mexican tiger prawn taco. Make use of their sweetness and colour to create a real treat for family and friends.”
With National Prawn Day just around the corner, it’s time to break with tradition and enjoy our seafood friends while they are truly in season and join in the celebrations. Who says you need to wait for Christmas or Easter? Whether you eat them hot or cold, with or without a sauce, Aussie tiger prawns are a sure-fire way to impress your family and friends and make any occasion special.

Global athletic leader New Balance is launching the new 237 silhouette, a modern tribute to the heritage models from the brand’s archives. The first release of the men’s and women’s 237 will be available at www.newbalance.com.au as well as select national retailers including Platypus Shoes starting February 6, 2021 and The ICONIC in March, 2021 with a suggested retail price of $130.
The 237 is a tribute to signature New Balance shoes from the 1970s and represents the next evolution of retro modern footwear design, a versatile shoe with even greater wearability that nods to the past but belongs to the now.
The New Balance 237 brings a new design that is rooted in the brand’s storied running styles. The outsole design is dervived from the original Comp 100, yet the dimensions have been scaled up to add intrest. The upper is constructed from classic 1970’s combinations of suede and nylon. The colors are bright and vibrant, creating familiar blockings with an easy wear aesthetic. The oversized panelling is shifted, offering an asymmetry that adds a new and fresh feel.
“The design of the 237 consists of details from retro running models in our archive and twists them creating a trend-forward aesthetic,” said Charlotte Lee, New Balance 237 designer. “The timeless design of the 237 has a prominent heritage 70’s design visual while still delivering a versatile model that can be worn with anything.”
The stitched and oversized N logo further nods to the 327 and creates a sense of nostalgia. Additional styles will be released throughout 2021 in a mix of colorways.
